Make sure you're not late! The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) indicates that generally speaking, your individual tax return for 2016 has to be filed on or before April 30, 2017. However, there are exceptions as well as an accounting for weekends and holidays. If you or your spouse were self-employed in 2016 (carried on a business, other than a business whose expenditures are primarily in connection with a tax shelter), your return for 2016 has to be filed on or before June 15, 2017. However, balances owing for 2016 must be paid on or before April 30, 2017.
Additionally, when the tax filing due date falls on a Saturday, a Sunday, or a public holiday (a public holiday recognized by the CRA), your return is considered on time if the CRA receives it (or it is postmarked) on the next business day. For the 2017 calendar year, April 30th does fall on a Sunday, thereby allowing extension to May 1, 2017. For more information, see the CRA page on Important dates for Individuals.

As per the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), most Canadian income tax and benefit returns for 2016 are due on April 30, 2017. However, as this date falls on Sunday this year, the CRA will consider your return filed on time and your payment made on time if they receive it by midnight on May 1, 2017, or if it is postmarked May 1, 2017. As noted, you can file online as early as February 20, 2017. Additionally, if you or your spouse or common-law partner is self-employed, you have until June 15, 2017 to file your income tax and benefit returns. See the CRA web site for more details.
